Manager Notes 5/29/2020
Our opening day went perfect. I wrote this letter to the local paper.

Everybody Wore A Mask

The Gatlinburg Farmers Market opened on Sat. 5/23. Since we are on city property, we promised we would follow recommendations for masks, social distancing, hand sanitizers and one way flow through the market.

We had received a bit of negativity about recommending masks, I was a bit worried there could be problems. 99% were happy that we were requiring them. Many local shoppers have kept themselves at home and even out of the grocery stores. They welcomed an outside area with rules where they could give 6 ft. hugs, see and visit friends again and buy fresh all natural vegetables.

Parents with 2 young girls stopped by, all wearing masks except the youngest who was about 5 years old. When she learned we were requiring masks she started crying. Mom, walked in and purchased a child sized mask from one of our crafters ( whose husband was selling home made bread). The little girl was beaming, as she now had a mask like her sister.

A couple, who are regular customers came by with a golden-doodle and a dachshund. I looked at their masks. To my surprise! The had the dog faces on their masks. Wish I had asked them where the got them. Our opening market was the best ever! Eight veggie and baked good vendors sold out by 11:30. We should have at least three more vendors this Saturday, 5/30, 8:30 til noon.

We will continue to stand our ground, recommending masks. The Gatlinburg Farmers Market will continue to protect our vendors and immune compromised shoppers. We are now thinking about a most creative mask contest.
We will have the same edibles as last week with carrots added and someone will surprise me with an addition.
Read below for a complete list.

  • .Local Choices for Healthy Mountain Living

It is with great enthusiasm that we present the Gatlinburg Farmers Market. We are residents of Sevier and Cocke Counties. Specifically Gatlinburg and surrounding towns, including Pigeon Forge and Sevierville who are focused on healthy food, lifestyle, technology, and major event productions throughout our careers. We all selected the Great Smoky Mountains as our home because of the beauty and offerings of the area and the wonderful lifestyle it brings and has the capacity to bring to its residents. The Gatlinburg Farmers Market is a dream and a vision to provide our residents and visitors with fresh, local produce for fair pricing while supporting and stimulating the local economy
